Description	:	RICHARD “DICK” MYRON MOTZ, 95, of Loudonville, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, July 23, 2017 in Brethren Care Village, Ashland after an extended illness. Dick was born January 15, 1922 at home in Jelloway, the son of the late Otto A. and Ora Alberta (Reichert) Motz. He attended the Nundy one-room schoolhouse and was a 1941 graduate of Loudonville High School. Dick was a US Navy veteran of World War II. Read More	RICHARD “DICK” MYRON MOTZ, 95, of Loudonville, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, July 23, 2017 in Brethren Care Village, Ashland after an extended illness. Dick was born January 15, 1922 at home in Jelloway, the son of the late Otto A. and Ora Alberta (Reichert) Motz. He attended the Nundy one-room schoolhouse and was a 1941 graduate of Loudonville High School. Dick was a US Navy veteran of World War II. He began his naval service at Great Lakes Naval Training Center and following graduation was sent to Norfolk, Virginia where he was assigned to LST 392. This ship was his home for the next four years where he was the landing craft helmsman and Chief Boatswain’s Mate during the invasions of Sicily, Salerno and Normandy. He steered the small boat delivering men, supplies, and equipment to the beaches, crossing the English Channel 43 times during the Normandy invasion. This dangerous responsibility was one of the most horrible times of his young life. After the victory in Europe he was given a 30-day leave and promptly headed to N. Carolina to pick up his sweetheart, Dot Woolard and bring her home to meet his parents and ask her to marry him after the four-year wait. Dick was headed to Japan but the war ended before he could be sent resulting in his honorable discharge on December 17, 1945. He was later honored to be registered with the World War II Monument in Washington, DC by his former employer, Ted Byerly. Dick returned to The Flxible Company in Loudonville where he worked 43 years until his retirement in 1983. He then worked 25 years with Byerly Funeral Home and Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home until 2008. He was a member of Trinity Community Church, Copus Hill Model A Ford Club, American Legion Post 257 and was a member of the Loudonville Cemetery Board for many years. He and Dot traveled across the country with the Model A Ford Club including San Francisco, Mt. Rushmore, Pike’s Peak, Yellowstone National Park and Bar Harbor, Maine where he met his Captain from his LST ship. On September 9, 1945 he married Dorothy “Dot” (Woolard) Motz and she died March 27, 2017. Dick is survived by his two daughters: Beverly Kay Badger and Judy Ann Koppert, both of Loudonville; five grandchildren: Mike (Chastity)Badger, Brent (Stephanie) Badger, Erin (Tom)Weaver, Bryan (Jennifer) Koppert and Sheila (Steve) Boardman; seven great-grandchildren: Grace and Sarah Badger, Justin Viola, Brandon Schmidt and Madison Cline, and Matthew and Ryan Weaver; his brother, Ernest Motz of Loudonville and his sister, Ruth Keister of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two sisters: Annabelle Ruehling and Helen Heffelfinger. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 28, 2017 at 11 a.m. in Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville with Pastor John Temple officiating. Burial with military honors by the American Legion and VFW will be in Loudonville Cemetery.
