He married Carol Scheve in 1973; they divorced. He married Julie Reinert on Nov.16,1979 in Dodge City. She survives. He graduated from Dodge City High School. He worked in construction until 2001, when he started his own business,"Uncle Meat's Smoked Meat" which was his true vocation. Rick also enjoyed the outdoors,hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Bill Jeffrey Melia. Services was held at Swaim Funeral Home with Rev. Lance Carrithers presiding. Creamation took place. Memorials to St. Catherine's Hospice of Dodge City in care of Swaim Funeral Home.
