Berndt was born on July 28, 1924, in Glasco, Kansas, the son of Otto Wilhelm and Minnie Gladow Berndt. Bob passed away on Saturday, December 27, 1997 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas, after a lengthy illness at the age of 73 years. Bob was Baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Glasco and graduated from Glasco High School with the Class of 1942. He served in the Army Air Force and was sent to Italy where he was assigned to the 455th Bomber Group as a radio operator. He flew 35 bombing missions over Germany, Austria and northern Italy. After his discharge from the military, he returned to his hometown, Glasco, Kansas and attended college at Kansas State University, where he graduated with a bachelor of Science in Geology. Bob worked for Core Laboratories from Canada to offshore rigs in Texas. In 1981, he was assigned to the Williston North Dakota office where he remained until his retirement. In Williston, he was known as "Core Lab" Berndt by his friends. He returned to Glasco in 1992, to make his home and be closer to family. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Leo, Leonard and Bill Berndt. He is survived by a sister, Eva Berndt Winchester, Lake Oswego, Oregon, 10 nephews and 7 nieces. Funeral services were Tuesday, December 30, 1997 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Glasco, Kansas with Pastor Larry Frank officiating. Music by Judy Wyatt, vocalist and Irma Ethridge, organist. Casket bearers were Brett Berndt, William Berndt, Andy Struble, David Berndt, Gaynord Keller, Carl Windhorst. Honors rendered by the V.F.W. and interment was at the Glasco Cemetery.
