Description	:	Robert Eugene "Bob" Hausmann was born on July 8, 1933 in Bonesteel, South Dakota to Joseph and Anna (Sondergroth) Hausmann. He was the youngest of 16 children and enjoyed growing up on the family farm north of Bonesteel. He attended Catholic Grade School in Bonesteel. Bob enrolled in South... Read More	Robert Eugene "Bob" Hausmann was born on July 8, 1933 in Bonesteel, South Dakota to Joseph and Anna (Sondergroth) Hausmann. He was the youngest of 16 children and enjoyed growing up on the family farm north of Bonesteel. He attended Catholic Grade School in Bonesteel. In the ninth grade, he began attending Bonesteel Public High School. He participated in football, basketball, track and field and baseball. He was noted for his tackling prowess in football, earning the nickname "Shoestrings Hausmann" for his unique style of bringing down an opposing ball-carrier. He graduated high school in 1952. Bob enrolled in South Dakota State University in the fall of 1953, studying Agriculture and working in the Dairy. In 1954, he enrolled in the United States Army and was dispatched to Korea during the Korean Conflict. He received his Honorable Discharge in December of 1955. Though his official military service ended at that time, the love of his Country was apparent throughout his life. On June 14, 1957, he joined his best friend and sweetheart Coreen Jons in Holy Matrimony at Immaculate Conception Church. Bob and Coreen moved to the original Hausmann Farmstead to begin a long farming career. Bob and Coreen were blessed with 5 children: Shari, Bob, Scott, Sue and Jon. Bob's true pride and joy was his family. He and Coreen could often be seen attending sporting and music events for their kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Bob had several business ventures in addition to farming. He was the Territory Manager for Cargil, owned Hausmann Feed Mill in Burke, and worked at the Gregory County ASCS office before officially "retiring". No matter what the task or business, it was obvious what made Bob a true success was the relationships that he made with those he was dealing with. He was a true humanitarian who cared deeply for others. He was honored to call so many people his friend. Bob displayed a true servant's heart throughout his life. If there were tasks to be done, volunteers to be found or events to organize, Bob was the man. He was recognized throughout the county as the voice of many sporting events and parades. He was involved heavily as a lector and member of the choir of Immaculate Conception Church. He served as Financial Secretary of the Bonesteel-Fairfax Knights of Columbus. He was commander of the Roy Garringer American Legion Post, organized the annual Powder River Show and Dance and was appointed to the South Dakota American Legion Athletic Commission. He performed countless other "random acts of kindness" that only God knows about. Bob passed away on Friday, January 4th, 2013 at the Butte Healthcare Center at the age of 79. He transitioned from this life to his Heavenly Home surrounded by his wife of 55 years and all of his children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna, and 14 of his brothers and sisters. Bob is survived by his wife Coreen; three sons: Bob Jr (Sara) of Bonesteel; Scott (Mary Jo) of Sioux Falls; Jon (Angie) of Norfolk, NE; two daughters : Shari (Hank) Sunne of Valley Springs, SD; Sue (Tony) Vogt of Bonesteel; 18 grand-children; 12 great-grandchildren; brother Don of Bonesteel ; and a host of in-laws, cousins, nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his longtime friend and Army buddy of 58 years, Eddie Halterman of Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bonesteel. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Bonesteel. There will be a rosary on Tuesday at 7:00 PM at the church. Visitation will be one hour prior to both services at the church.
