Raymond Joseph Hausmann was born May 28, 1920, on a rural farm north of Bonesteel, SD, to Joseph P. and Anna Hausmann. Ray was raised and worked in the Bonesteel community along with his 15 brothers and sisters until he was drafted into the Army/Air Corp in May 1942. Raymond Joseph Hausmann was born May 28, 1920, on a rural farm north of Bonesteel, SD, to Joseph P. and Anna Hausmann. Ray was raised and worked in the Bonesteel community along with his 15 brothers and sisters until he was drafted into the Army/Air Corp in May 1942. He was honorably discharged in August 1945, as a WWII veteran. On June 2, 1948, he was united in marriage to Frances Tuchscher of Ellendale, North Dakota. They farmed south of Ellendale until 1950 when they moved to Bonesteel where they farmed and raised their 5 children. While living in Bonesteel, Ray was involved in several organizations. He was a Gregory County Commissioner; held the office of Commander of American Legion Roy Garringer Post #36, which he was a member for 60 years; and Grand Knight of the Bonesteel Council of the Knights of Columbus. Along with farming, he also had his own electrical business known as Ray's Electric, where he did residential and commercial wiring. Ray and his brothers Ed, Don and Bob formed the Hausmann Brothers Barbershop Quartet and thoroughly enjoyed performing at various functions in the local Bonesteel area. He enjoyed family life by participating in large family reunions, playing softball, telling jokes, and playing the accordion. After retiring from farming in July 1989, Ray and Frances sold the family farm and moved to Pierre to be closer to their children. Upon moving to Pierre, Ray was employed at Sandvig's and Beckwith's Sew & Vac. His satisfaction in fixing things caused him to eventually open his own sewing machine and vacuum repair business, which he operated for 17 years until his retirement on June 2, 2006. Ray is survived by his wife Frances, and five children, Jeanette (Dave) Brummer, of Vacaville, CA; Pat (Gregg) Tobin of Winner; Dave (Kathy) Hausmann of Pierre; Barb (John) Herra of Pierre; and Mike (Sandi) Hausmann of Winner; 10 grandchildren; Sean Kelly and Abby Tobin, Joe (Kendra) & Dan Brummer, D.J. (fiancé Aimee Stutesman) and Darin (fiancé Molly Huber) Hausmann, Jesse and Jayson Herra, Kristin and Justin Hausmann; Stepgrandchildren Ryan & Nealy Tobin; and one great grandchild Alaini Brummer; brothers Ed, Len (fraternal twin), Don, Harry, and Bob; and sisters Alma and Sister David. Ray is preceeded in death by his parents Joseph and Anna Hausmann; his brothers Jimmy, Bill, and Joe; and sisters Jeannie, Marie, Margaret, Katherine, and Sister Daniel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, September 30, 2006, Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Pierre. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Pierre. Arrangements by Feigum-VanLith Funeral Home, Pierre.
