Thurman (Robert Franklin) Vol. 12:#50 Bill Fiske's Bugle Celina, Tennessee. Thursday, December 14, 1922 On the morning of Nov. 21 death claimed bro. R. F. Thurman. He was born Oct. 14, 1839, and was twice married. First he married the widow Webb shortly before the Civil War. To this union was born a son, and then his wife died in the year 1867. His second wife was Miss Catherine Green sister to his first wife, daughter of William Green and sister to A. P. Green. By his last wife he had three sons and two daughters, and two sons and two daughters are still living to mourn the loss of their father. Bro. Thurman was a farmer and attains that always attends industry, economy and honest business methods. While his death was not unexpected. He had been given to rheumatism for many years and bore his suffering with patience. He was sick but three days in his last sickness and died of double pneumonia. Death always brings with it a sense of sadness, but where one has lived one's allotted time, earth has but little more to offer, so when the evening is reached the anticipation of the home of the soul grows brighter in the heart of a Christian. Let us not look on the departure of Bro. Thurman as a calamity, but as a life that was full of care and sorrow, and eternity one of rest to await the glorious reunion of God's people "over there." Brother Thurman was born into the kingdom of Christ about 35 years ago. He obeyed the gospel under the preaching of Brother James Ownsby at Pleasant Grove. He lived faithful to that church for many years, then moved to the home where he died, and lived a faithful member with the church at Cave Spring until his death. Now his work is over, his soul has gone to God who gave it. He will say ____ ____ to a __________________ as those who have hope. We read in the book of God, and I have heard a voice from heaven say unto me, write blessed the dead that die in the Lord, from henceforth, Yeah saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them. Rev. 14:13. Precious in the sight of Jehovah is the death of his saints. Psalms 116:15 The writer made a short talk at the home of the departed in the presence of a large congregation of his brethren and friends and relatives, then the body was laid to rest beside his wife in the family graveyard, who preceded him 11 months and 16 days to await the resurrection morn.
