Read More	ROBERT GUDMESTAD The remains of Robert Gudmestad, who died at Albuquerque, New Mexico on March 28, 1928, arrived here last Thursday accompanied by Mrs. Gudmestad and the children. He died following a long illness with tuberculosis. Deceased was born in Valley City on March 7, 1893. In the spring of 1901 he came with his parents to their farm home five miles west of Litchville in Rosebud Township where he grew to manhood. He helped with the work on the family farm until 1916 when on December 20 of that year, he was united in marriage to Miss Caroline Olson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Olson, also pioneer farmers of this country, and now residents in Starbuck, Minnesota. After his marriage, Robert and his bride moved onto a farm in Skandia Township where they lived until the fall of 1917 when he entered the employ of the Northern Pacific Railway Company as a fireman. Mr. and Mrs. Gudmestad bought a house in Dilworth, Minn., and lived there until his failing health forced them to seek a different climate. Robert was first sent to a hospital in St. Paul and later went to a sanatorium near Lake Park, Minn., but did not make much improvement while at either of these places. Consequently, in the fall of 1923, the family moved to Albuquerque, N.M. The climate and other conditions in the southern state seemed to agree with the patient and he, apparently, was on the road to complete recovery. However, about a year ago, he was taken ill with influenza, the effects of which he was unable to overcome.He continued to fail until death came on the 28th of last month thus ending his suffering. Surviving are the sorrowing widow and five children, namely: Harvey, Georgine, Robert, Gordon and Byron; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Gudmestad; four brothers: Oscar, Thomas, Sven and George; four sisters: Mrs. Christ Olson, Mrs. Frank Satterlee, Mrs Roy Werle and Miss Carrie Gudmestad. The last rites were held last Friday afternoon with services at the parental home at two o'clock and at the Bethlehem Church at three o'clock with Rev. John S. Sunde officiating. Special songs were rendered by the Misses Bernice and Lucille Hanson and by the church sextette. The church was far too small to accommodate the large number of people who came to pay their last respects to the deceased, and the profusion of floral gifts gave beautiful evidence of the esteem and love of relatives and friends. Short services were also held at Dilworth on Thursday morning before the body was shipped to Litchville. Pallbearers were his four brothers: Oscar, Thomas, Sven and George and two brothers-in-law, Christ Olson and Frank Satterlee. The remains were laid to rest in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Robert Gudmestad was a loving and faithful husband and father, a good son and brother, and a loyal friend. He gained the respect and admiration of people, and his death is mourned wherever he was known. Blessed be his memory. Published in The Litchville Bulletin, Litchville, ND, March 1928.
