Read More	GURI GUDMESTAD Mrs. Thomas Gudmestad, (Sr.), pioneer farm woman of the Litchville country; died at her home west of Litchville shortly before the curtain was drawn over the old year on the evening of December 31, 1933. Mrs. Gudmestad had been ill and an invalid for over three years, ever since a severe paralytic stroke she suffered in October 1930. Everything possible was done by family and friends during these three years of illness to make the pain-wracked body as comfortable as possible. Mrs. Gudmestad, born Guri Bjorheim, first saw the light of morn in Stavanger, Norway, on August 16, 1862, where she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and spent all of her girlhood and early days of young womanhood. Together with her sister, she immigrated to the United States when she was 25 years of age, coming to Valley City. Two years later, on December 24, 1889, she became the bride of Thomas Gudmestad, to whom she had been betrothed before leaving the land of her birth. Mr. Gudmestad was working in Valley City at the time, and they established their home there, continuing to live in that city for some ten years. In 1901 they moved to their Rosebud Township farm, which has been "home" ever since. Deceased was the mother of ten children, eight of whom, together with their father, are left to mourn her death. One child died in infancy while the family home was still in Valley City, and Robert answered death's call at Albuquerque, NM where he had gone in 1928 for his health. The living children are: Oscar, Mrs. Chris Olson, Mrs. Frank Satterlee, all of Rosebud Township; George, at home; Mrs. Roy Werhle, of Upham, this state; Mrs. Oliver Severson and Sven, both of Minneapolis; and Thomas, who works on a farm near Valley City. Twenty-one grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. John Skretting of Valley City, and two brothers who still reside in Norway also survive. The funeral was held last week Thursday afternoon, with services at the home at one o'clock and at the First Lutheran Church in this city at two o'clock. Rev. H. O. Egertson, pastor of the local church, officiated. Appropriate and touching musical numbers, hymns best loved by the deceased, were sung by a ladies quartette. Pallbearers were: R.B. Monson, John Formo, Abraham Skretting, Ole B. Johnson, H. A. Opperud and Wm. King, all long-time neighbors and close friends of the beloved woman, carried her to her last resting place in the Bethlehem Cemetery, west of town.
