Description	:	OBIT: In the death of Mr. Robert John Kinney, which took place at his home in Rome, Iowa, on Wednesday, October 30, 1918, Henry County loses one of its best and oldest inhabitants. He was a son of Jacob Shipman and Susan Kinney and was born in Greene County, Ohio, July 17, 1845. At the age of eight, he came with his parents and grew to manhood in Henry County. Read More	OBIT: In the death of Mr. Robert John Kinney, which took place at his home in Rome, Iowa, on Wednesday, October 30, 1918, Henry County loses one of its best and oldest inhabitants. He was a son of Jacob Shipman and Susan Kinney and was born in Greene County, Ohio, July 17, 1845. At the age of eight, he came with his parents and grew to manhood in Henry County. In November 1870, he and Emmeline Gholson were united marriage. One son Edmund who was born October 15, 1872 and died June 14, 1879, was born to them. The wife and mother departed this life in November 1874. On February 8, 1877 Mr. Kinney and Miss Mary Klopfenstein, daughter of Mike and Anna Klopfenstein, were wedded. Eight children came to their home. Elsie died in infancy. The rest are Mrs. Dollie Wolverton, Quincy, Illinois, Mrs. Clara Burke, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Mrs. Emma Myers, Memphis, Missouri, Charles L. Kinney, north of this city, Mrs. Essie Hopper, St. Louis, Missouri; and J. Spencer Kinney of Rome, Iowa. Eighteen grandchildren are left. Three brothers, Martin of Salem, Iowa, George of Coppock, Iowa, and Frank of DeGraff, Kansas, and one sister, Mrs. Jane Allender, also survive. He was very well known all through this section of Iowa where he had a host of friends. He was converted at Richwoods when he was twenty-four years of age. His conversion was a happy one. From that time on, he trusted in Christ as his Savior. He was faithful and earnest before the Lord and tried to do his duty by all. He was an industrious man and always worked hard. He was known for his honesty and integrity. He was a member of the Baptist Church at Rome. His long sickness was borne with Christian fortitude and patience. The funeral was held at the home on Saturday morning at ten o'clock. Pastor Frank E. Weston, who spoke comfortingly to the living, and sympathetically of the dead, conducted it. Old friends sang the hymns. There were many beautiful flowers sent to express appreciation of his life and sorrow for his bereaved wife and family. The pallbearers were Freeman Messer, Charles Carlson, Robert Swailes, Arch Dold, John Sammons and R. S. Sammons. The interment was in the beautiful cemetery at Richwoods, were brief service was held.
