Robert was born April 7, 1924, in Nelson, NE, to Frank and Myrtle (Avers) Hoins. Robert was a graduate of Taylor High School in Taylor, NE. He married Maxine (Garska) Hoins on June 16, 1943, in Clay Center, NE. She passed away May 24, 1994. On September 24, 1995, he married Darlene Davis in Hastings, NE. He was employed as the Post Master at the Fairfield Post Office for 40 years retiring in 1987. He served on the Fairfield Fire Department and as Civil Defense Director for 50 years. He was a charter member and chairman of Fairfield Presbyterian Church Building Committee and the church's Finance Committee. He was a past member of the IOOF Lodge, a past member of the Fairfield School Board and a member of Clay County Historical Society, and Old Trusty Days at Clay Center, NE. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; son, Robert E. and wife Peggy Hoins of Fairfield; two daughters, Deborah and spouse Stan Schultz of Madison, MS, and Rebecca and spouse Gary McCracken of Broken Bow, NE; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind three brothers; four sisters; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine; his parents; great-granddaughter, Emily Hoins; sisters, Ione Dilsaver and Elaine Shubert; brother, John R. Hoins; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Hoins and Mary Hoins; brothers-in-law, Lyle Dilsaver and Rex Shubert. Hastings Tribune, Monday, August 10, 2009.
