C "Old Regimental Cavalry Missouri Volunteers. However, due to some disability he was discharged very soon in April 1862. Apparently he was able to overcome the problem as next he enlisted as a private in Co. K 2nd Nebraska Cavalry 23 December 1863. He later served again in the military in the western frontier in the Indian wars. He returned to Missouri where he married Martha Jane (Rathbone) Smith, a widow. Eventually they would go to German, Smith County, Kansas and then Martin, Kansas. The far west was still calling him and in 1887 moved to Klickitat County above present day White Salmon to the area now known as Snowden. He farmed but was also a carpenter, having his work in many old house, of which some of them still stand.
