Robert Robertson Gordon was born October 25, 1886 in Des Moines, Iowa. His father died while he was yet an infant and he moved with his mother to Huron, So. Dak. and later to Nebraska, where he resided until fifteen years of age. He then returned to Tama, Iowa to reside with his grandfather and at this place he united with the Presbyterian church in Morrison and continued to live the same faith throughout his life. Later he came to live with his mother, Mrs. Jessie B. Youel. He acquired a business education at Highland Park College, Des Moines and was connected with the Security bank of Creighton and the Bank of Dallas, So. Dak. at different intervals. On June 9, 1909 he was married to Elizabeth Berger, whose death occurred March 4, 1915. He is survived by two sons; Lewellyn Edmond and Howard and one daughter, Luella Margaret; his mother, Mrs. Youel; five sisters, Mrs. Geo. Agler of Creighton, Mrs. Fred Blankenfelt, Niobrara, Mrs. Ralph Cunningham, Indiana, Grace and Velma Youel and one brother, George Youel, Creighton. Robert Gordon volunteered for was service and was assigned to duty at Fort Logan, Colorado. In August 1919 he was transferred to San Francisco and promoted to corporal and clert of Company 52 C.A.C. He was mustered out of service Dec 22, 1918 and in the preceding month suffered serious health impairment from the influenza epidemic, the ravages of which undermined his health, which eventually led to his death at Hot Spring, So. Dak., Nov. 19, 1919, at the age of 33 years. Robert Gordon was a young man, who made friends and held them, who attempted only that which he completed and who won friendship from his fellowmen.
