Description	:	A funeral service in memory of Ronald A. Espey was conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at the Hartley United Methodist Church in Hartley, Iowa. Rev. Steve Campbell officiated. Pallbearers were Bryan Nelson, Zachary Espey, Brandon Espey, Leroy Peters, LeRoy Steffens and Don Brigham. Military Graveside Services were conducted by Arthur W. Kirchhoff Post #28S, Hartley American Legion. Interment was in Harrison Township Cemetery at May City, Iowa. Hartley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Ronald Arthur Espey, the son of Curtis and Dorothy (Kruckenburg) Espey, was born at Hartley, Iowa on March 20, 1947. As a youth. Ronald lived in the Ocheyedan and May City area. He graduated from Hartley High School in 1966 and earned an Auto Body Certificate from Sheldon Vocational School. After school he joined the United States Army, where he served his country during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Achievement for his response to an emergency situation. Ronald was married to Susan Wilken from June 7, 1969 to March 20, 1989. This union was blessed with three children. Kevin, Ronda and Aaron. In recent years he enjoyed spending time with Susan and her daughter Sara. For the last 18 years Ronald has worked for the O'Brien County Maintenance Department where he did various jobs over the years. He passed away on Friday, May 19, 2006, at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 59 years, one month and 29 days, due to complications during heart surgery. He is survived by two sons: Kevin and his wife, Tracy of Ocheyedan, Iowa and their children, Shelby and Zachary, a second son. Aaron of Hartley; his father, Curtis Espey and his wife, Rene of Sutherland, Iowa, two sisters: Becky Loetscher of Arvada, Colorado, and Betty Hatfield and her husband, Doug of Kearney, Nebraska; his brother, Larry Espey and his wife, Brenda of Hartley; several nieces, two nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ronda, Ins mother, Dorothy; two brothers, Oliver and Dean, and his grandparents. Ronald was a fanatic car hobbyist, restoring, modifying and showing classic Mopar vehicles to his own tastes. He had a passion for camping, fishing, and listening to and collecting eight-track tapes. He enjoyed supporting the State of Iowa through lottery gaming. He enjoyed his job with the O'Brien County Maintenance Department and helping with his son's restaurant catering business. He was a member of the Hartley United Methodist Church. Ronald's greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.
