Dorothy Dena Espey, the daughter of Henry and Minnie (Bress) Kruckenburg, was born December 4. 1920 near Harris. Iowa. She graduated from Melvin High School in 1939. She was united in marriage to Curtis Espey in Hartley, Iowa, on July 7, 1940. During their married life, they have farmed in the Hartley/Ocheyedan area. Dorothy was a devoted housewife and mother. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hartley, the Good Sam Camping Group, a former member of the Rebekah Lodge, and Sunday School teacher for several years at Ocheyedan. She passed away at the hospital at Spirit Lake, Iowa, on September 30, 1989, at the age of 68. Preceding her in death were her parents, one son, Oliver, a granddaughter—Ronald's daughter Rhonda at age 7 months, and one brother, Herbert. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Curtis; three sons. Dean and his wife Margary of Hartley, Ronald of Hartley, and Larry and his wife. Brenda of Hartley; a daughter. Betty and her husband Doug Hatfield of Atlanta; and Rebecca Loetscher of Denver, whom they raised as a daughter; 15 grandchildren, one great grandchild; and one brother, Frederick and his wife.
