Description	:	Ronald J. Anderson, 90, of Elk Point, South Dakota, died Friday, December 18, 2009 at Southridge Health Care Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Ronald was born to Norman and Mary (Clementson) Anderson in Elk Point, South Dakota, on July 18, 1919. He was the eighth of eleven children in the family. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He attended and graduated from grade school in Richland, South Dakota. Anderson, 90, of Elk Point, South Dakota, died Friday, December 18, 2009 at Southridge Health Care Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Ronald was born to Norman and Mary (Clementson) Anderson in Elk Point, South Dakota, on July 18, 1919. He was the eighth of eleven children in the family. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He attended and graduated from grade school in Richland, South Dakota. He entered the United States Army on May 7, 1942 and was honorably discharged on January 9, 1946. He proudly served his country in World War II in the European Theatre of Operations. In 2007, he received an honorary high school diploma from the Elk Point-Jefferson School District. On December 27, 1947, he married the former Dorothy Hofland at Elk Point. During their 54 years of marriage, they farmed north of Elk Point for 51 years and moved to Elk Point in 1999. Dorothy died in 2002. Ronald moved to WEL-Life Assisted Living in Elk Point in 2008. Ronald was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He served as a trustee, deacon, usher, member of the Cemetery Association, and worked the church farm. He was a school board member at Coyote District 21 rural grade school for the twelve years his daughters attended. He was a lifelong farmer and served on the Farmers Elevator Board of Directors. He was a lifetime member of the Elk Point Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). After retiring from farming in 1984, he enjoyed woodworking, flower and vegetable gardening, and visiting his family. He also began baking and cooking after Dorothy's death. Ronald is survived by two daughters, Shirley (Karl) Porisch, Marshall, Minnesota and Marilyn (Jim) Green, Sioux Falls; one grandson, Brad Green, Vermillion; a brother, Llewellyn Anderson, Palm Desert, California; three sisters, Arlene Swift, Akron, Iowa, Olive Coverdale, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Adeline Rhoten, Carlisle, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, four brothers, and two sisters. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 31903 475th Ave, Elk Point, SD 57025. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, December 21, 2009, at the Anderson-Siecke-Kober Funeral Home in Elk Point Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Elk Point, South Dakota with Rev. Mary Feistner officiating. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Elk Point with military graveside service conducted by Elk Point V.F.W. Post #914.
