Description	:	Funeral services for Mrs. Rosa C. Thomas, pioneer Thayer county (sic) resident were held at the Methodist church (sic) last Friday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. C.G. Ellis. Internment was made in the Chester cemetery (sic). Rosa Christina Heckel was born at Plano, Illinois, November 5, 1860, the second daughter of Enes and Christina Heckel. Rosa Christina Heckel was born at Plano, Illinois, November 5, 1860, the second daughter of Enes and Christina Heckel. On August 6th, 1882, she was married to George H. Thomas. To this union seven children were born, two sons, Elmer J. and Lawrence M. and her husband preceded her in death. In March, 1892 with her husband and family she moved to Thayer county (sic), Nebraska, and located on a farm, 5 1-2 miles northeast of Chester, where she lived until February, 1927, when she moved to Chester. She was a member of the Methodist Church of Chester for more than twenty-five years. On October 22, 1936 she went to Ord, Nebraska, to spend the winter with her daughter, Mrs. Bessie Achen. On January 7, 1937 she suffered a paralytic stroke, from which she seemed to be recovering until on Sunday, January 24, she contracted pneumonia, from which, in her weakened condition she was unable to recover, and departed this life on Tuesday, January 26, 1937, at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 23 days. She leaves to mourn her loss, three daughters, Mrs. Alta Crouse, of Chester; Mrs. Delta Beiswanger, of Milford, Ind.; and Mrs. Bessie Achen, of Ord, Nebr.; and two sons, Lewis W. Thomas of Milford, Ind.; and Lloyd L. Thomas, of Chester; twelve grandchildren; one brother, John Heckel, of Lincoln, Ill., and a host of other relatives and many friends.
