Larrick Shoemaker, 90, of Winchester, Va., and Berkeley Springs went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 6, 2009, at the Winchester Medical Center. Mrs. Shoemaker was born on March 4, 1919, in High View, a daughter of the late J. Walter and Myrtle V. Powell Larrick. Rosalind enjoyed her early childhood roaming the orchards, forest and riding horses on the family farm. In her earlier years, she was a avid watercolor artist creating several paintings that have been passed to family members. She was a professional floral designer and beloved employee of Weber's Nursery for more than 50 years. As a devout Christian, she was a member of the First Brethren Church; but, as an expression of her belief in an all-loving God, she attended several churches in the area. She was a long-standing member of the Ft. Loudon Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution for almost 30 years, and lived to utmost the DAR motto, "God, Home, and Country" and the Ft. Loudon Chapter motto "Honor the Past, Strengthen the Present, Plan for the Future." She served on various committees, but her favorite contribution was to provide floral arrangements for the various meetings and activities. In 2005, Mrs. Shoemaker received recognition for 25 years of service to the organization. Her love of country has been passed on to her daughter, Rosalind, and nieces Theresa L. Wisemann and Linda Burgess, who are active DAR members as well. Mrs. Shoemaker married Garland Lorain Shoemaker on Dec. 10, 1947, in Charlottesville, Va. Mr. Shoemaker died on March 29, 1996. Surviving is one son, John Robert Shoemaker and his wife, Karen, of Berkeley Springs; one daughter, Rosalind S. "Sue" Adams of Bunker Hill; four grandchildren, Pamela S. Didawick of Berkeley Springs, Barry Dean Shoemaker and wife, Denise, of Great Cacapon; Rosalind R. Savering and husband, Eric, of Inwood; Sarah A. Adams of Bunker Hill; seven great-grandchildren, Tiffany M. Didawick, Jay D. Didawick, Sophia Lorraine Didawick all of Berkeley Springs; Kayla R. Savering and Joseph C. Savering both of Inwood; Ariel S. Payne and Gage N. Payne both of Bunker Hill. Her extended family includes the family of Mike and Karen Weber and staff of Weber's Nursery. She is preceded in death by three brothers: Dr. Robert V. Larrick, Bruce H. Larrick and J. Baden Larrick. A funeral service will be at 11a.m. the Ebenezer Christian Church near Gore, Va., on Friday, July 10, 2009. Officiating will be the Rev. Ron Neff. She will rest at her husband's side in the Ebenezer Christian Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Giffin Funeral Home in Capon Bridge on Thursday, July 9, 2009. Pallbearers will be Eric Savering, William Weber, Peter Weber, Robert Weber, Barry Dean Shoemaker and Michael Neff.
