R.H. Polly In Charge; Interment At Evergreen Private funeral services for Roy D. Grauel, who committed suicide by hanging himself yesterday at the hoe of his father-in-law, John Gantz, 10 miles northwest of the city, will be held from the home tomorrow moring at 10 oclock. Rev. R. H. Polly will officiate. Interment will be made in the Evergreen cemetery. ---------------- Fairfield Daily Ledger Friday July 31, 1925 Pg. 2 Col. 2 OBITUARY Roy David Grauel Ray David Grauel (sic), son of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Grauel, was born in Harlan Iowa, July 20, 1889 (sic. 1888 per headstone inscription) and died at the home of his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Gantz, Fairfield, Iowa, July 23, 1925, aged 36 years and three days (sic. he actually died at their farm, not in Fairfield city proper). On May 16, 1919, he was united in marriage to Marie Gantz who survives him. He was a member of Blue Lodge Mount Neba., 297, and Scottish Rite, of Nebraska, No. 1, Tangier Temple Ancient Arabic Order Noble Mystic Shrine, Omaha, Neb. From his childhood he was a member of the Methodist church at Harlan, Iowa. During the World War he spent one year and two months in the army. Previous to that he had spent four years in the navy. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, of Fairfield, Ia., his father and mother, one sister Mrs. E. K. Harris, and three brothers, Harold, George and Clarence, all of Avoca, Ia. Funeral services were conducted from the John Gantz home northwest of Fairfield, Saturday forenoon, at 10 o'clock by Rev. R. H. Polly of the Christian church. Mrs. L. W. Van Nostrand and Miss Io Starr sang "Whispering Hope," "Does Jesus Care?" and "Abide With Me." Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery at Fairfield.
