GALLIHER) Funeral Will be Held Sunday The remains of Royal V. GALLIHER, who died in Iowa City, arrived in Fairfield yesterday afternoon. The funeral will be held Sunday morning. Roy Vaska (a/k/a Vasha) GALLIHER, son of Mr. and Mrs. Grant GALLIHER, was born in Jefferson county, Jan. 6th, 1891, and died at Iowa City, Oct. 10th, 1918. Age 27 years, 9 months and 40 days. He had lived all his life in this county, having graduated in the Fairfield High School in 1910, and in Parsons College in 1915, and was Superintendent of Batavia High School for the past three years and had made good in all his work and had just entered the medical school of the State University. He united with the Methodist Episcopal church when a boy of 10 years and had taken an active interest in the church and her work, serving as president of the Epworth League and was ever an energetic worker. His earnestness, loyalty and friendliness had made him a host of friends. He leaves mother, two brother and two sisters, J.H. GALLIHER of Hungtington, Indiana, Harry A. of Silver City, Iowa, and Iva and Myrtle of Fairfield. The services will be held at 10:30 o'clock Sunday forenoon and will be in charge of Dr. C.L. Tennant. The friends will meet at the Kerrick undertaking parlor at 10 a.m. and proceed to the Union cemetery near Glendale. * Transcribed for genealogy purposes. I am not related to the person(s) mentioned. Note: Royal's obituary stated that burial was to take place at Union Cemetery, which may have happened. Evergreen Cemetery (Fairfield, Iowa) plot records indicate that he was buried on this plot on Feb. 20, 1920. He may have been first buried at Union Cemetery where his paternal grandparents and other GALLIHER family were buried, then later the family removed him to this location in Evergreen Cemetery. His father was also indicated to have been first buried in Union cemetery and was also likewise evidently reinterred to Evergreen Cemetery. Note: The obituary used "Vaska" as the middle name, other sources use "Vasha". One or the other is likely a transcription error. Will use the "V" for this entry since neither the obituary nor headstone can be used to prove or disprove either spelling.
