RUBY ULLRICH (1913-1954) West Union, Sept. 5 - the body of Mrs. Ruby Ullrich, 29, former resident of Stout, will arrive Monday at noon at the William Lafferty Funeral Home here from Vancouver, Wash., where she died of gunshot wounds inflicted by her husband, Randolph, who then killed himself. Mrs. Ullrich was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Blevins of Stout. ----------------------- *NOTE: A birth date of 25 December 1913 was initially provided for Ruby based on the date recorded on her marriage certificate in 1954. However, according to the 1930/1940 Federal Census, she was born close to 1925. The 1930 census states she was born in Kentucky and the 1940 census states she was born in Ohio. Neither state provides a birth date in their records at this time. There is a record for a Ruby McGraw, daughter of Robert McGraw and Martha Fraley, who was born in Lawrence County, Ohio on 30 May 1925. She passed away in Greenup County, Kentucky on 27 July 1926. These two individuals are not related. Ruby was married three times before her death. Her first marriage was to Oscar McGraw about 1940. They had one son, Oscar Elmo McGraw, born in 1941 and he is still living based on Ancestry.com. Ruby's second marriage was to Walter Jacobson in 1949 and this record shows she was 26 years old when they married. Based on this information, she was born in 1923. Her last marriage was to Ernest Randolph Ullrich and based on several articles related to her death, they were married only three months, making their marriage year in 1954. Ernest died by suicide after killing Ruby and one article stated that the authorities were planning to revisit the death of his previous wife, Virginia, who was believed to have committed suicide in 1949. According to the Washington state death records, Ruby died on 31 August 1954 in Vancouver, Clark County, Washington. Based on this same death record, she was born about 1914. This birth year is likely incorrect and has created some confusion with other researchers. Had she been born in 1913-14, her mother would have only been 11-12 years old when Ruby was born. The Portsmouth Times states that she was 29 years of age at the time of her death which would indicate that she was born in 1924.
