Read More	Ruth Elaine McCartney, died Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the Deseret Health & Rehab Center, Smith Center, Kansas. Ruth, the daughter of Lydia E. (McDermed) and Andrew R. Dillon, was born January 2, 1932 at Portis, Kansas. Ruth received her formal education attending the Red Cloud schools, graduating with the class of 1950. She was united in marriage with Paul Edward McCartney on June 18, 1950 at the Mt. Hope Church in Smith county. This union was blessed with six children. They made their home on the farm in the Lebanon community, where Ruth was involved in a number of activities. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Oriole Club, the Over Sixty Club and the Kansas Regional Library Board. In earlier years, Ruth had been employed with the Webster County Community Hospital, the Inavale Nursing Home, and Holt's Potato Farm. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading, writing, bowling and visiting with her many friends and neighbors. Ruth's live for her family was immeasurable and she was happiest when they were spending time together. As they were raising their family on the farm, many can recall watching her spend hours cooking on her wood burning cook stove. Preceding her in death were: parents; husband Paul on December 14, 2013; daughter, Jo Ann McCartney; daughter-in-law, Debbie McCartney and brother, Paul E. Dillon. Left to cherish her memory are: children, Paul E. McCartney of Hastings, Nebraska; David McCartney of Red Cloud, Nebraska; Michael McCartney and wife Sharon of Red Cloud; Debra Saathoff and husband Scott of Franklin, Nebraska; Lori Bortz and husband Darin of Smith Center, Kansas; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Dale A. Dillon of Salina, Kansas and Frederick G. Dillon and wife Susan of Branson, Missouri; sisters Naomi Parrish of Crete, Nebraska, and Ava L. Waugh and husband Ben of Tulsa, Oklahoma and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Thursday, 10:30 a.m., January 16, 2014 at the United Methodist Church, Lebanon, Kansas with the Rev. Bill Lunde officiated. Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Lebanon, Kansas.
