Description	:	Ruth Greeves age 101, of Stoneybrook Suites in Huron, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006 at the Huron Nursing Home. Her funeral service was held Friday, Sept. 29 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. Private burial was held at the G.A.R. Cemetery in Miller. Ruth Kingdon was born January 2, 1905, on a farm near Hitchcock, S.D. to Henry and Elsie (Pidge) Kingdon. She was the second of three children. Ruth attended country school through the fifth grade. In 1916, her family moved into Huron and in 1922 she graduated from Huron High School and Huron College in 1926. She then taught school in Lemmon, Presho, and Gettysburg. While in Gettysburg she married Earl Everett Greeves. In 1936, Robert Greeves was born and later that year her husband Earl passed away. In 1945, Ruth and her son moved to Huron and she resumed teaching, this time in the field of music. She spent most summers in school at various Midwestern universities and private sector programs improving her training. She taught music in the Huron schools for twenty-five years. She has been a life long member of the Huron Methodist Church. Ruth loved to travel abroad and she visited many different countries. She was elected to the Annie D. Tallent club, Who's Who in American Education in 1965, and was the recipient of the South Dakota Music Educator's Recognition Award in 1981. For thirty-six years she was a member of the South Dakota Education Association and National Education Association. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Pi Kappa Delta, Gamma Theta Rho, Theta Alpha Phi, the YMCA, AAUW and Chapter BE of P.E.O. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Everett Greeves; her parents; and her brother, Robert Kingdon. She is survived by her brother Eugene Kingdon of Huron, her son, Robert Earl Greeves, his wife, Mary Ann Greeves of Bethesda, MD; his first wife, Trish Greeves of Elk River, MN; her grandson, John Walter (Wally) Greeves and his wife Sonya of Vienna, VA; her granddaughter, Kelly Marcuzzi, her husband Darren; and great grandchildren, Sydney, Michael, and Jake, all of Marietta, GA.
