Ruth McIlravy was born September 4, 1911 to Charles and Maggie (Bigley) McIlravy in Modoc, KS. She moved to South Dakota with her family when she was 7 years old. Ruth attended school at Canning and graduated from Canning High School. After high school, Ruth worked for several families in Pierre. Ruth was united in marriage to Harry Hinesh on August 29, 1939 in Pierre. They ranched north of Pierre in partnership with Charlie Hyde. Ruth cooked many meals for hired hands and harvest crews. She also raised chickens and sold eggs and cream. Ruth worked for many years at the Governors Residence for Governor Kneip, Farrar, Boe, and Gubbrud. Ruth enjoyed gardening, cooking, entertaining neighbors, people from church and school friends of her children. Ruth was always sure to get people to sign her guest book when they stopped at the house. She was a Charter member of Grand Avenue Wesleyan and a member of Pierre Senior Center. Ruth was a member of Gideon's Auxiliary, meeting numerous people around the state and continued many friendships from this organization. Ruth enjoyed politics and would support causes she felt strongly about. Ruth is survived by a son Albert and his wife Tania of Pierre; daughters Helen Zander and her husband Elmer of Ft. Pierre, Rose Huston and her husband Duane of Richland Center, WI; 6 granddaughters; 3 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry, brothers Lee, Arthur, Carl, Alfred and Woodrow McIlravy; and sisters Bertha McIlravy, Grace McIlravy, Ethel Hillmer, Mary Luecke and Dorothy Thomas. =============
