Mrs. Ruth Porter, a long time resident of Cumberland, [Iowa], and vicinity, died early Friday morning, November 3, 1967, at the Berry Nursing Home in Atlantic, Cass County, Iowa, where she had been a patient since April 8th. Cause of death was a stroke. . Mrs. Porter, the daughter of Edward V. Smith and Isabell (Lloyd) Smith, was born near Cumberland, [Cass County, Iowa], October 28, 1892. Mrs. Ruth Porter, a long time resident of Cumberland, [Iowa], and vicinity, died early Friday morning, November 3, 1967, at the Berry Nursing Home in Atlantic, Cass County, Iowa, where she had been a patient since April 8th. Cause of death was a stroke. . Mrs. Porter, the daughter of Edward V. Smith and Isabell (Lloyd) Smith, was born near Cumberland, [Cass County, Iowa], October 28, 1892. She attended rural schools and Cumberland high school and taught school for several years. . She was united in marriage to W. Earl Porter at Cumberland on April 4, 1916. They farmed in the Cumberland vicinity before moving to Cumberland and was a member of the Gospel Chapel at Lyman. . Mrs. Porter is survived by her husband, five children; three daughters, Mrs. Marvin [Wanda] Penfold of Coon Rapids, Iowa; Mrs. Kermit [Barbara] Malmberg, Des Moines, Iowa, and Mrs. Harold [Geneva] Layman, Rockwell City; two sons, Max E. Porter of Massena and Eldon Porter of Cumberland; 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; two brothers, Milo Smith and Lloyd Smith, both of Cumberland. . Funeral services were held Sunday, November 5, 1967, at 2:00 p.m., at the Gospel Chapel at Lyman with Bro. Calvin Lindeman officiating. Mrs. Jimmy Mauk, accompanied by Mrs. Dale Inhofe, sang "Trust and Obey" and "Good Night and Good Morning." The flowers were in charge of Mr. and Mrs. Clair Erickson and Mrs. and Mrs. Wm. Hoyt. Serving as casket bearers were: Chester Dilley, Raymond Amburg, Erwin Inman, Clarence Schrier, Maurice Lehman and Ronald Smith. .
