Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pastor Marcia Sylvester officiating. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Ave. NW is in charge of arrangements. Ruth Winniefred Smolnisky was born October 16, 1921 to Emil and Mary (Lammle) Smolnisky, on the family farm near Leola, SD and attended country school. Ruth and Christian A. Schumacher were united in marriage November 28, 1940 in Long Lake, SD. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this November. They made their home on a farm in the Long Lake area until moving into Aberdeen in 1990. Ruth was a member of Salem Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Long Lake, SD while residing on the farm, and later became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, SD. Having a propensity for everything financial, she spent several years as a volunteer helping the elderly file their income taxes through N.E. South Dakota Community Action Program in the Eureka/Long Lake area. Ruth was a member of the Moose Lodge of Aberdeen, where she enjoyed playing bingo and cards with her friends. She was also an avid bridge player in several bridge clubs, always enjoying the competitiveness of the game as well as the many friends she made. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Leo, Elmer and Ralph. Grateful to have shared in Ruth's life are her husband, Christian A. Schumacher of Aberdeen, SD, her son, Warren Schumacher of Aberdeen, SD, three sisters, Mary Ann Peters of Sioux Falls, SD, Kathleen (Clee) Robinson of Denver, Co, and Evelyn Ringsby of Sequin, WA and one brother John (Delores) Smolnisky of Eugene, Or. Pallbearers will be Jim, Luther, Richard, Mark and Matthew Schumacher and Harold Hoffman. Memorials preferred to North Plains Hospice or to the charity of your choice.
