Description	:	Salomon "Sam" Rivinius, 84, Elgin, died July 26, 2005, at Jacobson Memorial Care Center, Elgin. He was born June 27, 1921, on a farm south of Heil to Carl and Rosina (Seidler) Rivinius. He attended elementary school at Cowan School District No. 2 and graduated from Elgin High School. Read More	Salomon "Sam" Rivinius, 84, Elgin, died July 26, 2005, at Jacobson Memorial Care Center, Elgin. He was born June 27, 1921, on a farm south of Heil to Carl and Rosina (Seidler) Rivinius. He attended elementary school at Cowan School District No. 2 and graduated from Elgin High School. Sam lived on the family homestead, farming with his brothers until 1953, when he moved to Elgin and eventually became manager of the American Legion Club. Sam was a school bus driver from 1964 through May 1989. He was responsible for as many as three bus routes at a time throughout his 25 years of service. Over the years, Sam transported basketball and football players on activity buses. He loved talking about his bus kids and sharing stories, like the time he took a busload of high school girls to an FHA convention in Fargo and remembered with amazement how they sang songs all the way home. He was honored to be presented with a retirement party and a plaque of appreciation from the Elgin School Board for his years of service. Sam was an avid fisherman, rarely revealing the locations of his favorite fishing holes. He enjoyed trapping and selling minnows to other fishermen. Sam also enjoyed hunting, playing pinochle, going to auction sales and tinkering on his International buses, but especially spending time with his friends and visiting with people. He served the community for many years as a volunteer firefighter and chief of the Elgin Fire Department. He also was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Sam entered the Jacobson Memorial Care Center in Elgin in August 2002, where he died July 26, 2005. Sam is survived by his sister, Alice Iszler; a brother, Harold Rivinius; a sister-in-law, Alma Rivinius; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Theodore and Rubert; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Alvina (Emanuel) Wutzke and Johanna (Arthur) Bruhn; and his sister-in-law, Delores Rivinius. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
