WILLETT DEAD Samantha Jane Beard died at her home west of Villisca Thursday morning, April 18, 1912, at one o’clock of heart trouble. She was a sufferer from heart and stomach trouble for several years and at times had been seriously ill, but for several day had been feeling unusually well. She was in town Sunday to visit her sister-in-law, Mrs. A. G. Beard, who was seriously sick. Mrs. Willett’s last illness lasted less than ten minutes. When she was taken sick she called her husband and before the daughters, Mrs. L. B. Penton, and Mrs. Omer Day, or any assistants could get there she had passed away. Samantha Jane Beard was born in Highland County, Ohio, May 4, 1848, and was therefore 62 years, 11 months and 4 days old at the time of her death. She came to Illinois with her parents in 1868 and was united in marriage to William Harvey Willett January 4, 1869. They came to Iowa in 1876 and settled in Adams County, later moving to a farm west of Villisca, near the place where they lived at the time of Mrs. Willett’s death. To Mr. and MRs. Willett, three daughter were born, one died in infancy, the others are: Mrs. L. B. Penton and Mrs. Omer Day, who with there husband survive her. Also three brothers survive, who are: A. G. George and Benjamin Beard and four sisters, Mrs. George Higgins, Mrs. Elizabeth Graves, Mrs. Mollie Stallings, and Mrs. Anna Ashmore. Mrs. Willett had been a member of the Methodist Church for the past 35 years and although unable to attend church regularly, gave liberally to support and advancement to its causes. She lived for things not earthly. She enjoyed a large circle of friends and acquaintances, who’s sympathy is extended to the bereaved family in the loss of a good mother and devoted wife. The funeral services were held from the Methodist Church in Villisca on Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. W. Taylor The interment was in the villisca Cemetery.
