COPELAND, a resident of Fairfield for the past 10 years, passed away at 5:15 p.m. yesterday at the veterans hospital in Des Moines. He had been in failing health for three years and seriously ill the past three weeks. Mr. COPELAND was taken to the hospital last Friday suffering from a heart ailment. He was 79 years of age at the time of his death. Last rites will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with Rev. S.P.... Samuel Andrew Copeland was born September 27, 1868, at Folks Station, Ohio, the son of the late Samuel and Mary RALLSTON (sic. a/k/a Ralston or Raulston) COPELAND. He was united in marriage June 18, 1889, to Laura GANTZ, who survives. Mr. COPELAND was a farmer most of his life until his retirement 10 years ago. At that time he moved to Fairfield where he had made his home until his death. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge, the Masons, and the United Spanish War Veterans. He served with Company H of the 15th Minnesota Volunteers during the Spanish-American war. Besides his wife, Mr. COPELAND is survived by a sister, Mrs. May L. CLAYWELL, of Caldwell, Washington, and a brother, John H. COPELAND, Fairfield.
