Samuel Albertson Okeson, son of Mr. & Mrs. George B. Okeson, was born in Chenoa, Ill., May 6, 1862, and died at the Maryhaven Convalescent home, Wilmette, Ill., March 7, 1952, aged 89 years, 10 months, 1 day. In 1874 the family came to Kansas and for two years they lived in Sabetha, and then moved to the farm on which Old Fairview was located. There the mother was postmistress for 14 years, and the children grew up. Miss Grace Peek came to teach Old Fairview school from Newark, New York, and on Dec 30, 1885, she and Mr. Okeson were married in New York. They returned after the wedding and began their family life on the farm which he had bought northwest of Fairview, which is still in the family and is known as the Sam Okeson farm. Nine children were born to them, two of whom died in infancy, and a third, George, died in 1926. The wife died in 1929, and the following year Mr. Okeson moved into Fairview. After several years he made plans to live with his children. Since 1948 he had made his home at the Maryhaven Convalescent home, just a few miles from the home of his son, and there he received every care, had been contented in his declining days until his death last Friday. Surviving children are Mrs. Bertha Haynes, Mrs. Helen Keene of Lawrence, Mrs. Vera O'Neal of Ponca City, Okla., Winslow P. Okeson of Glenview, Ill., Rex D. Okeson of Albuquerque, NM., and Sam A. Okeson of Sabetha. There are 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, two nephews, Harry Van Dalsem of Rockford, Colo., Ernest Van Dalsem of El Dorado Springs, Mo., and two nieces, Mrs. Frank Irwin, Mrs. Charles Schmitt, both of Fairview. Funeral services were held at the Delaware Baptist Church in Fairview on Tuesday at 2 o'clock in charge of Dr. M.O. Clemmons. Alonzo Lambertson sang two numbers; Mrs. Ivan Sawyer was the organist; flowers were in the charge of a committee headed by Mrs. Chester Morgan, assisted by Mrs. Will Rogers and Mrs. Vic Carter. Burial was at Mount Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha. Body bearers were Winslow, Rex, and Sam Okeson, Leslie Haynes, Harry Keene, and T.B. O'Neal.
