He died at his home in Lancaster, Mo., on April 30, 1938, at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 20 days. He was the fifth of a family of seven children. Two brothers, Shelton and James D., have preceded him in death. Two sisters, Hannah Burns and Phoebe Elizabeth Simmons and two brothers Reuben W., and John B. Graves survive him. On December 8, 1889, he was united in marriage with Martha Masters by Rev. F. M. Rose. To this union were born three children: viz: Mrs. Elgie Alexander, Fred W. Graves and Mrs. Grace Roberts, all of whom survive him. And, in addition to these children seven grand children survive him. With the exception of a short time spent in Higbee, Mo., and Greeley, Colo., his entire life was spent in Lancaster and vicinity where he was known and respected universally as a man of strong mentality, successful in business, a good neighbor, trustworthy friend, a good citizen and a good man. He was a member for 47 years of the I. O. O. F. lodge. Until failing health compelled him to retire, he lived upon his farm near Lancaster and was actively engaged in farming and stock raising. Recently, ill health forced his retirement and his declining days were spent in Lancaster. Survived by his widow, children, grand children, brothers, sisters and a host of relatives and friends, his passing marks the end of a life marked with kindness, consideration and integrity; one that will be greatly missed by the community wherein he worked and lived. Funeral services were conducted at the home in Lancaster on Tuesday, May 3rd at 2 p. m. by Rev. T. M. Walton of Lancaster, assisted by Rev. Robert W. Seath of Atlanta, Ill. The impressive Odd Fellow service was also conducted at the home and at the grave by the Lancaster lodge. Burial was in the Odd Fellow cemetery.
