Read More	Ref: 30 Sep. 1937, Hopkinton Leader, Hopkinton, IA -- Samuel Orr, son of Samuel and Mary Orr, was born March 28, 1862, and passed away in death at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Bacon, on September 26, 1937, at the age of seventy-five years, five months and twenty-nine days. He had been in frail health for the past year or two, but his condition did not become serious until the last few days preceding death. He was born on a farm in Johnson County, Iowa, which is now the site of Iowa City. He was united in marriage to Sarah J. Ratcliff on November 7, 1885, who preceded him in death in 1928. To them were born two children: Joseph C. of Baldwinsville, New York and Evalenna, wife of Charles Bacon, of Hopkinton, Iowa. Besides the son and daughter, he is survived by two brothers and a sister, David of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, William of California and Mrs. Anna Wilson of Coggon, Iowa; and nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Orr spent seventeen years of his life outside of Iowa, the remaining years he was a resident of Iowa. He was a carpenter and builder by trade, but spent many years farming. He was for many years a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and at times took an active interest in local school affairs. For many years he has been a devout student of the Scriptures, and possessed a strong and unwavering faith in God. He was not ashamed of the faith and Gospel which he possessed. Through this faith he was prepared for the end and welcomed its approach. Those who knew him best speak of his high ideals and humble spirit. Though quiet in manner and a man of few words, he made many steadfast friends, all of whom will be saddened by his departure. Funeral services were held on September 29th at the Buck Creek church conducted by the Pastor, Rev. H. E. Morrow. Burial was made in the Buck Creek Cemetery.
