MEYERS AT REST. – Samuel Peter Meyers, son of Samuel and Barbara Meyers, was born in Johnson County, Iowa, November 9, 1867 and moved when a child with his parents to Polk County, Iowa. He passed away at his home August 29, 1952 at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 20 days. He was one of a family of eleven children, having five brothers and five sisters. He became a member of the Church of the Brethren in his early manhood and remained a member throughtout his life. He was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Gooden, February 20, 1896 in Jasper County and they established their home on a farm south of Maxwell, where he spent his entire life. To this union was born six children, four girls and two boys. Two daughters, Hazel and Iva preceded him in infancy, and one daughter, Margaret in 1935. Also his parents, four sisters and four brothers. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Neva Rodefer of Des Moines and two sons, Kenneth and Keith of Maxwell. Four grandchildren, Lorrene Rodefer Adair, Joan, Eleanor and Dianne Meyers, and one grandson, Martin Meyers, who made his home with his grandparents. Also they have had in their home through a period of years Joe Vansickle of Nevada, Malcolm Wertz of California and John Thompson of Fairchild, Washington. One sister, Hattie rupp and one brother, Dan of Maxwell and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Relatives from a distance who attended the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Clint Meyers from California, Mrs. Ed Meyers from Greeley, Colorado, Mrs. Clara Gardner from Perry, Mrs. Leota Ray from Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Claud Holt from Clear Lake, South Dakota, Mrs. Pearl Carr and two daughters, Mrs. Doris Araison and Mrs. Nadine Hurr of Worthington, Minnesota. Services were at the Maxwell Church of the Brethren Monday, September 1 at 2:00 p. m. with Rev. C. E. Lookingbill and Rev. L. R. Bucklew in charge. Alice Gooden sang, "In the Garden" "Going Down the Valley" and "There'll be No Tears in Paradise" with Betty Porter as pianist. Mrs. Albert Link, Jr. and Charlott Caple cared for the floweres, whild casket bears (bearers) were: John Oxley, Vaughn Ray, Basil Caple, Finley Stebbins, Brace Robertson and Harry DeVilbiss. Interment was in the Brethren cemetery."
