Description	:	Samuel Pool, son of Samuel Sr and Elizabeth Pool was born in Washington Co., Ohio, Feb. 2, 1850 and departed this life Sept. 27, 1926 aged 76 yrs, 7 mod. 24 days. Read More	Samuel Pool, son of Samuel Sr and Elizabeth Pool was born in Washington Co., Ohio, Feb. 2, 1850 and departed this life Sept. 27, 1926 aged 76 yrs, 7 mod. 24 days. When one year old he came with his parents to Van Buren Co., Iowa. When a lad of fourteen in company with his father, they joined the A.J. Davis Emigrant train which crossed the plains to Butte, Mt. After spending 5 years in the west he returned to Van Buren Co., Iowa, which has been his home ever since. On OCt. 30, 1873 he was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Salters, and to this union 9 children were born, 7 girls and 2 boys, all of whom are living except one daughter Rose who died at the age of 16 mos. Besides the widow 8 children survive: Mrs. Lutie Parker, Selma, Ia.; Mrs. Jessie Plowman, Kilbourne, Ia; Mrs. Maud Cade, Seattle, WA.; Mrs. Mabel Mercer, Helena, Mont.; Mrs. Letha Elsensohn, Ottumway, Ia.; Mrs. Leah Davis, Troy, Ia.; Fred Pool, Keosauqua, Ia.; and Curtis Pool at home; 21 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; one sister Mrs. Ruth James of Leando, IA.; and one brother Enoch Pool of Agency, IA besides many other relatives and a host of friends. Mr. Pool was an industrious and hardworking man and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He had lived on the farm near Leando for 34 years. He was not a member of any church but died in the faith of our Heavenly Father. He had been in poor health for several years but his last sickness was of short duration, taking sick on Sunday and passed away at 4:30 a.m. Monday morning. Sept. 27, 1926. Funeral services were held at Leando church on Friday at 1pm conducted by Rev. Will Hager. The remains were laid to rest in the new addition to Leando cemetery. The children were all present at the funeral. (This is the Samuel Pool who was a son of Samuel Pool Sr. that was known as the mule skinner on the Oregon Trail in the photograph so many family members have seen in the past; also the one who was bitten by the bear.)
