He was born 27 Oct. 1848 at Manheim, PA. When he was 16 he lied about his age to enlist into the Union Army. He went to Lancaster on 25 Feb. 1865 and became a private in Co. Read More	The Kinch Family--400 Years of History page 189 SAMUEL RICE KINCH, b. 27 Oct. 1848, Manheim, PA. Samuel Rice Kinch was the 3rd child of Benjamin and Mary (Rice) Kinch. He was born 27 Oct. 1848 at Manheim, PA. When he was 16 he lied about his age to enlist into the Union Army. He went to Lancaster on 25 Feb. 1865 and became a private in Co. G of the 195th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment-- the same company that his brother Henry Augustus Kinch joined just a few days earlier. Both he and Henry Augustus were discharged on 31 Jan. 1866 at Washington, D.C. We have a description of Samuel from his discharge papers. He had a ruddy complexion with brown hair, hazel eyes, and was 5'3-1/2" tall. The year after his discharge at age 19 on 5 Nov. 1867 he married Abigail Ann Groff at Mount Joy, PA. She was born at Uniontown, FA on 14 Apr. 1851. Samuel became a locomotive engineer on the Reading RR. system and earned the nickname of the "Flying Dutchman! It seems he kept his train on schedule by flying down the track. In 1875 he lived in Columbia, Lancaster C0156. Samuel and Abigail moved to Clyde, Kansas in August, 1877. They stayed there until 1901 when Oklahoma Territory was open to white settlers, and they made the "run" to claim land for a farm 2 miles west of Hinton, OK. There they stayed. Abigail died at Hinton on 29 Oct. 1914. Samuel died in Fort Worth, Texas on 14 Feb. 1923. Samuel and Abigail had eight children: 156 Directory of Lancaster County, PA, 1875-76.
