Born in Burke County, Pennsylvania, he spent most of his life in and near Enon. He was a farmer by occupation, and his "fiddle," as he termed his violin, was his one great hobby--one that brought him prominence throughout Clark and nearby counties. During the Civil War he served in the First Ohio Artillery Regiment and his first engagement was at Knoxville, Tenn. In later years he recalled playing his violin to cheer the soldiers of his regiment. The same violin had been in his possession for about 75 years. After retiring from his farm near Enon, he lived in the village a number of years and two years ago went to Dayton make his home with a son, Henry I. Sheets. Mr. Sheets was a brother of David Sheets, also a Civil War veteran, who died in his home at Beattytown some time ago. Besides the son in Dayton, three daughters, Mrs. Eva Sheets of Rossburg, O.; Mrs. Charles SHELLABARAGER of Osborn, Route 1, and Mrs. Victor HANES of Enon; 12 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:15 p.m. Saturday in the son's residence in Dayton, 47 Lorenz av., and at 2:30 p.m. in the Enon Christian Church. Burial will be made in Enon Cemetery.
