Read More	EMERSON MAN KILLED AT LINCOLN Samuel Steiner, a prominent farmer living northeast of Emerson was run down and killed by an automobile while attending the fair in Lincoln, Nebraska Tuesday of last week. The Emerson Chronicle has the following account of the affair. Mr. Steiner had gone to Lincoln to attend the state fair. About four o’clock in the afternoon he started to the Burlington depot with the intention of sitting down and resting awhile. While crossing the street an automobile came around the corner and ran into him. He was knocked down and rolled about twenty feet, but it was not definitely known whether the automobile passed over him or not. He was taken to a hospital immediately after the accident where he died at 7:30 o’clock in the evening. The automobile which was a Cartercar, was being driven by a lady and is said to have been making between twenty and thirty miles an hour. Mr. Steiner is a prominent and well-to-do farmer living eight miles northeast of Emerson and his untimely death comes as a great shock to his many friends in this vicinity. The funeral was held at 2:30 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the Emerson Methodist Church and was conducted by Rev. Walter A. Morgan. Samuel Steiner was born in the city of Berne, Switzerland, August 20, 1840 and died September 3, 1912. He was aged 72 years and 14 days. He came to this country at the age of 12 years and resided with his parents at Salem, New Jersey. He enlisted in the army at the beginning of the civil war and served the union in the Army of P ‘mac for two years and ten months. After the close of the war he came west, first to Illinois, and in 1872 migrated to Iowa, buying the farm upon which he has lived ever since. He was married to Maggie F. Taylor in May 1873. To this union was born nine children, seven sons and two daughters. One of the sons, Frederick died thirteen years ago. The living children are Richard, Mrs. Mary Stuart, Mrs. Catherine Viner, Samuel, Jr., Jesse, Harry, and Vernon. With the exception of Mrs. Stuart, who lives at Shenandoah, all the children lived near Emerson. Besides the children, he is survived by his wife, one brother, and two sisters, who reside at Salem, New Jersey, and a host of friends, who loved him for his whole-souled earnestness and as a generous friend and neighbor. He was a member of the Emerson G.A.R, post and all the Odd Fellows Lodge, but his age and an injured leg prevented his taking an active part in either of these in later years.
