Mr. BARNES was born in Mansfield, Ohio, May 11, 1832, and grew to manhood there. He was married to Sarah J. RAITT in 1856 and the young people came immediately to this city, which was their home untill 1877, when they removed to Kans. They returned to Fairfield in 1890, and the wife died here in 1895. They were the parents of six children, four of whom are living: F.J. BARNES at Geneva, Neb.; Mrs. JUDD at Kanawha; Mrs. Georgia YOUNG, Richfield, Neb., and Mrs. Maggie BRANSON in this city. Mr. BARNES was a brother of Benjamin BARNES and Mrs. Guilan BEATTY of this city. He was a member of Co. M, 4th Ia. Cav., in the Civil War and served three years and four months. The friends who have sympathized with him through many years of ill health will regret his death. ----- Note: From Prill Vol. 12 notes of Civil War soldiers - Samuel Barnes Co. M, 4th Iowa Cav.
