She was married to Charles Crowder December 20. 1899. With the exception of one year when her husband was In business at Osage City, all her life she lived ¡n Douglas County. For the first few years after their marriage they lived on a farm in the Crowder neighborhood devoting much of that time to the care of Mr. Crowder’s aged grandparents. They moved to Lawrence in 1908. During the war she took an active part in Red Cross work. She was a member of the Rebekah lodge No. 4 and of the Ladies Circle of the Grand Army of the Republic of which order she was the president. She was the youngest president they had ever had and the first to die in office. She was an active club woman, a charter member of the Pleasant Hour club and also a member of the Year Round club. In the work of this club for raising funds for the clock presented to the Memorial hospital she was especially active and was the first one of the club to hear its chimes from a hospital bed. She passed away Tuesday, August 16, following an operation on the thirteenth and was buried from the home she loved and laid away beside her father In Oak Hill cemetery. A faithful and loving wife, a devoted daughter to her widowed mother, a congenial neighbor, the life and fun of every gathering. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. St.
