Description	:	Daughter of John Smith, per her Jefferson county death record (Sarah listed under the married name "Michael"). The name of her mother was not entered, however. The last married name is highly questionable - a 1900 Kansas census lists a John Michaels and Sarah Michaels, which appears to be a credible source of where they lived in Norton county, Kansas; however, Sarah's Fairfield Daily Journal obituary listed the second married name as "Micheal", while a separate Evergreen cemetery listing used "Michols". Sarah was buried in an unmarked grave in 1st Addition, lot 067, so there is no original headstone to show a photo of. --------------- The Fairfield Daily Journal Saturday October 21, 1911 Pg. 4 Col. 3 MRS. SARAH C. MICHEAL DIED FRIDAY Mrs. Sarah C. Micheal died yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter Mrs. J. C. McConnell in this city after an illness extending over a period of several years. The immediate cause of her death was cancer from which she had suffered intensely for some time. Mrs. Micheal was 80 years of age being born near Syracuse, New York, on June 27th, 1831. She grew to young womanhood in that city. She was twice married, the first husband being John Phelps. To them were born seven children, one of whom with Mr. Phelps has been dead a number of years. About fourteen years ago Mr. and Mrs. Micheal were married in Kansas and lived together there for ten years when death clamed him. Mrs. Micheal since that time has made her home with her children and she has been a resident of Fairfield for the past four years making her home with her daughter Mrs. McConnell and family. She is survived by five daughters and one son, who are as follows: Mrs. J. L. Potter of Colorado, Mrs. L. M. Watties (sic. spelling ??) of Nebraska, Mrs. Mary Varner of Washington, Mrs. E. M. Creamer of Kansas, Mrs. J. R. McConnell of this city, and Fred Phelps of Dubuque. The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the residence and the interment will take place in Evergreen cemetery. Dr. Thomas Osborn will conduct the last services.
