Description	:	SARAPHIE CRYE, 1872 – March 22, 1957 Saraphie, (better known as Sarah), b. 1872 was of truly pioneer stock. She moved to Riviere Qui Barre, Alberta, Canada in 1894 with her father, Fancois Cyre and family. Francois-Xavier Cyre, born August 28, 1838, and his wife, Philomene Gervais and family, arrived in Canada in the mid 1890's to take up homesteading on the Klondike Trail, two miles south of the present site of Riviere Qui Barre. Read More	SARAPHIE CRYE, 1872 – March 22, 1957 Saraphie, (better known as Sarah), b. 1872 was of truly pioneer stock. She moved to Riviere Qui Barre, Alberta, Canada in 1894 with her father, Fancois Cyre and family. Francois-Xavier Cyre, born August 28, 1838, and his wife, Philomene Gervais and family, arrived in Canada in the mid 1890's to take up homesteading on the Klondike Trail, two miles south of the present site of Riviere Qui Barre. They hailed from Cloud County, Colfax Township, Clyde, Kansas, U.S.A., an area which was afflicted with tornadoes, cyclones, and droughts. Sarah Cyre also carried much of the burden of moving and establishing a home with her folks. However, well before her parents retired she was clerking at the Poirier General Store in Riviere Qui Barre. She had a home of her own which she was able to open to her folks when they could no longer care for themselves. She took care of them until they passed away in 1918. She also had a brother, Victor, who experienced her kind and devoted care. He had suffered a broken back in childhood and was crippled since the age of four. Although he could get around the house, he was unable to do manual labour. Two nephews, Treffle and Wilfrid Roberge, having lost their mother at a tender age, were to find her home open to them for as long as they needed it. In 1918 a niece, Bernadette Roberge, died of infuenza in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. She left a son a few days old. Tante Seraphie, took this little boy, Richard Meunier, and raised him for six years until his father remarried. Others who were to share her hospitality were George and Aaron Comeau, also nephews. There was no welfare at that time, so Aunt Sarah had to manage without help. About 1923 or 1924 Sarah and her brother Victor were called to serve the community in the capacity of local postmasters for several years in their home which housed the post-office. It was the little white and brown house behind the store in Riviere Qui Barre, about a block west of the church. Sarah also served in the capacity of secretary-treasurer of the Camilla school board, a task which she performed with a quiet and conscientious competence. Sarah fell and suffered a broken hip which never set. Treffle Roberge asked to put Aunt Sarah on the train for Colfax, Washington, U.S.A., so that she might get treatment. They had to rebreak the hip joint, and she was flown to California to recuperate with Wilfrid and Treffle Roberge but she preferred to go back to Edmonton. She went on her way at the age of eighty-five after several years spent at the Youville Home in St. Albert, Alberta. Saraphie (Sarah) Cyre is buried in the St. Albert Roman Catholic Cemetery, Plot A049.
