Pallbearers were Gaylon Anderson, Kal Bovee, Alan Lehman, Larry Anderson, Chris Jackson, and Gordon Stone. Sarah Irene Garton, daughter of Edgar M. and Luella Hanchett Woodford, was born September 3, 1897 in Centerville, la. Most of her early years were spent in Canton, Ill. While there she played piano for chapel and worked in a mercantile store. Irene married Eugene Thomas Garton on. May 16, 1923, moving to a farm northwest of Marathon. To this union four children were born: twin sons, Clarence Edgar and Kenneth Augustus, and daughters Cora Imogene and Beverly Ann. They were active members of the United Methodist Church in Marathon, which was an important part of their lives. Irene and Gene celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1973. He passed away on October 17, 1974. Friends and relatives helped her celebrate her 90th birthday in 1987. Irene passed away at the Spencer Municipal Hospital on August 8,1991. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her two sons and her half-sister, Ruth Woodford. Transcribed by: Kim
