BRUCH Sarah Maria Turner was born November 1, 1841, in Pennsylvania. While a small girl she moved with her parents to Ohio, where they lived for a few years and then moved to Iowa. Her mother died when she was about twelve years of age, leaving much of the care of five younger upon her. Her father was a Baptist minister and spent many years in that work. On December 30, 1866, she was united in marriage to John H. Bruch in Marshalltown, Iowa. In 1866, she and her husband came to Pawnee county, Nebr., and settled on a homestead about eight miles southwest of Pawnee City. This continued to be their home for thirty-six years. In the spring of 1902 they moved to Pawnee City. Mr. and Mrs. Bruch celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary several years before Mr. Bruch's death. Mrs. Bruch was the mother of nine children, six of whom are still living, namely: Mrs. Mary Feaster of Winnett, Mont.; James S. Bruch of Genoa, Colo.; George F. Bruch of Yuma, Colo.; Mrs. Effie Brock of Minatare, Nebr.; Oscar Bruch of Parsons, Kas.; and Mrs. Sadie Hawkins of Inavale, Nebr. For a few years after Mr. Bruch's death Mrs. Bruch continued to live in the home in Pawnee City, but for the past few years she had made her home with some of her children. She departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sadie Hawkins, on July 9, 1923, at the advanced age of 81 years, 8 months and 9 days. Besides the sons and daughters and grandchildren, she leaves four sisters and many friends to mourn their loss. Mrs. Bruch became a christian when a girl of twelve but now suddenly the Baptist church, of which church she continued to be a member until the time of her death. She and her husband were charter members of the Baptist church in Pawnee City. She died as she lived, in the triumph of the christian faith. A short but impressive service was held Wednesday, July 11, by Rev. Harry W. Cope of Red Cloud, assisted by Rev. Simpson of Inavale, after which the body was brought to the old home of Pawnee City. At the service conducted by Rev. Cope, who is a former resident of this county, he said: "I have known her ever since I was a little boy, have been in that home a multitude of times, and I want to give testimony that it has never been my privilege to know a more earnest, devoted and faithful christian wife and mother and friend." Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church in this city last Thursday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. J. R. Hoy, and the body was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Pawnee Cemetery. With the exception of Mrs. Mary Feaster, all her children were present at the funeral.
