Casket bearers were Virgil James, Henry Lampe, Carl Storr, Don Martin, Francis Hudek and George Milefchik, and burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Ries died Wednesday about 4:30 p.m. at Lake View Nursing Home, Emmetsburg, where he had been admitted recently. He suffered a stroke in December and was at Mercy Hospital, Fort Dodge, before entering Lake View Home. Born at Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Ries came to the Pocahontas area as a young man and had lived here ever since. He was a veteran of World War I in which he served overseas. From the early 1920’s until his retirement in 1957, he served as a rural mail carrier here. In 1929, he married Amelia Hronek of Pocahontas. She died in 1953. Surviving are six children, the Rev. Donald Ries of St. Joe, the Rev. Richard Ries of Carroll, William Ries of Pocahontas, Sister Mary Amelian OSF of Ossian, Mrs. Eugene Schnabel of Hopkins, Minn., and Mrs. Robert Young of Emmetsburg, and eight grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Miss Rose Ries of Minneapolis, Minn., and Mrs. Ray Roth of Cedar Rapids.
