Lanus Died Following Long Illness Mrs. Catherine Ries Lanus died at her home at 1:40 a.m. Friday following a long illness. Donahue, Joe Davis and Frank O'Brien. Burial was in Calvary cemetery. Catherine Hussey, daughter of Sebastian and Mary Ann Hussey, was born Aug. 27, 1865, in Waldaschoff, Germany. At the age of 16 she came with her parents to the United States and they settled in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was united in marriage with Carl Ries on Sept. 6, 1886, and they established their home in Brooklyn. Seven children were born to this union, four dying in infancy. Her husband died in 1903. In 1907 she came to Pocahontas with her three children. She was united in marriage with Joseph Lanus Feb. 7, 1910, and they established their home in Pocahontas. Mr. Lanus died in February, 1946. During her long illness Mrs. Lanus was cared for by her daughter Rose. She was a patient sufferer and always maintained a cheerful disposition throughout her long illness. She is survived by one son and two daughters, Sebastian and Miss Rose Ries of this place and Mrs. Ray Roth of Cedar Rapids, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a sister, Mary Brobeil of Tripp, S. D., and six step-children. Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Roth of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Mary Gehrig and family and Mrs. Doris Schnetter and son Nick of Albert City, Mr. and Mrs. Art Gehrig and Mrs. Catherine Geary of Fonda and Arthur Lanus and son LeRoy of Rolfe.
