Death came after an extended illness that was serious for three weeks. Mr. Brown was senior partner and founder of the law firm of Brown and Brown, in which he was associated with his two sons. Born on Oct. 9, 1889, at Walworth, near Rochester, N.Y., he was the son of Reuben T. and Emma BROWN BROWN. His marriage was at Ontario, N.Y., on April 1, 1914, to Grace M. MIDDLETON, who survives. The couple had attained their 47th wedding anniversary Saturday. A completely self-taught lawyer, Mr. Brown came here from Frankfort in 1914 and opened a law office [NW corner Seventh & Main] above what now is Cook Brothers furniture store. He later had his office above the Racket clothing store, then above Taylor's shoe store, and, for over 20 years, above Camblin's furniture store, before moving to 118 West Eighth street in 1957. His eldest son, Jesse [BROWN], joined the firm in 1938 after graduation from Indiana Law school at Indianapolis. His youngest son, Lawrence [BROWN], became the firm's third member in 1949, after graduating from Indiana university law school. Mr. Brown's only previous partnership in his long career had been with Albert CHIPMAN, now a Plymouth attorney. The two men operated offices here and in Akron until Chipman was appointed judge of the Marshall circuit court when that county and Fulton county were divided into separate court districts. Mr. Brown also had shared legal offices with Fred McCLURG and the late Dale POENIX. Mr. Brown had been prosecuting attorney for the Marshall-Fulton county district in the early 1920s and on many separate occasions had served as city attorney here. He also had been Fulton county attorney. His incisive and perceptive mind had earned him an outstanding reputation in all kinds of legal work, particularly in his favorite role as a trial lawyer. A member of the Indiana and Fulton County Bar Association, he was an ardent outdoorsman, was adept at all kinds of woodworking and was an accomplished self-taught painter. Mr. Brown had been active only occasionally in law practice for the past two years. Surviving, besides the wife, are three daughters, Mrs. Clayton (Edith) NICHOLSON, Omaha, Neb.; Mrs. Conde (Ellamae) HOLLOWAY, Rochester, and Mrs. James (Grace) SHELTON, San Jose, Cal.; three sons, Jesse A. and Lawrence M. [BROWN], both of Rochester, and Walter J. [BROWN], Georgetown, S.C.; sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home with the Rev. James A. SCHUMACHER of the First Presbyterian church officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery here. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today. The family, most appreciative of the many floral pieces already sent, suggests that if desired, further remembrances other than flowers be made to the charity of one's choice.
