TEXTRUM - Selma Elfrieda Textrum died Sunday morning, March 27, 1949 at her home in Ames. Selma Elfrieda, daughter of Jonas and Johanna Lundquist, Swedish pioneers in Iowa, was born Sept. 28, 1875 on a farm southwest of Stanhope. She was confirmed in the Stratford Lutheran Church. Feb. 12, 1901 she was united in marriage to John Frederick Textrum and the couple started farming on the Textrum farm five miles south of Stanhope. Early in their married life, Mr. and Mrs. Textrum decided to give their children a fuller education, so they retired from active farming in 1916 and moved to Ames where their four sons could attend the Ames' schools. Mrs. Textrum suffered most of her life from pernicious anemia. In spite of her poor health, however, she carried on the family home, took care of the family and was an active worker in the Bethesda Lutheran Church. Her church meant a great deal to her, and she fully enjoyed the many years of work she was able to give in the building of her church. She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Herman Erick, who met with accidental death Nov. 25, 1916, shortly after the family had moved to Ames. Survivors include her husband, who is ill and was unable to attend the funeral rites; three sons, Myron of Ames, Vernon of Ankeny and Loren of Park Ridge, Ill., seven grandchildren, Bruce, Marcia, Marilyn, Charles, Barbara, John and Nancy, two brothers, Godfrey and Theodore Lundquist of Boone, and three sisters, Mrs. Hulda Benson, Cedar Falls, Mrs. Minnie Carlson and Mrs. Tilda Thompson of Minneapolis, Minn. Stratford Courier April 14, 1949 Obituary Selma Elfrieda Textrum Selma Textrum, wife of John F. Textrum, passed away early Sunday morning, March 27, 1949, at her home, 714 Douglas Ave., Ames, Iowa. Selma Elfrieda was a daughter of Jonas and Johanna Lundquist, who were early Swedish pioneers in Iowa. Selma was born September 28, 1875, on a farm southwest of Stanhope, Iowa. She was confirmed in the Stratford Lutheran Church by the Rev. S. Pearson. She was married to John Frederick Textrum on February 12, 1901, at Stratford, Iowa, and they started farming on the Textrum farm five miles south of Stanhope. To this wedlock was born four sons. She and her husband elected early in their married life to give their children a fuller education, so they retired from active farming and moved to Ames in 1916, where the boys could have the advantage of the Ames schools. Misfortune struck the family shortly after they moved to Ames, when the youngest son, Herman Erick, met with accidental death November 25, 1916. The shock of losing Herman had its effect on the remaining years of her life. Selma suffered the better part of her life from pernicious anemia. In spite of her poor health she carried on a family home, took care of her husband and children and was an active worker in the Bethesda Lutheran Church. The church meant a great deal to her. It was her only activity that she fully enjoyed the many years of work she was able to give in the building of her church. She never burdened other people with her troubles. She bore them herself. She was always planning for the future and only a short week before her death she planned a vacation this summer near a lake in Wisconsin where her family could come and visit them. Survivors include her husband who is ill and was unable to attend the services, three sons, Myron of Ames, Vernon of Ankeny, Lorren of Park Ridge, Ill., seven grandchildren, Bruce, Marcia, Marilyn, Charles, Barbara, John and Nancy; two brothers, Godfrey and Theodore Lundquist of Boone, and three sisters, Mrs. Hulda Benson, Cedar Falls, Mrs. Minnie Carlson and Mrs. Tilda Thompson of Minneapolis, Minn. One brother, Victor, and one sister, Emma, preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, March 30, in the residence and in the Adams chapel at Ames, the Rev. Paul A. Boe, pastor of Bethesda Lutheran church officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the South Marion cemetery, southeast of Stratford. The pallbearers were nephews of Mrs. Textrum; Conrad Lundquist and Eldred Lundquist of Stanhope; Clarence and Raymond Skagerberg of Bricelyn, Minn., Marvin Sogard of Charles City, and Walter Sogard of Colton, S.D.
