Born in Detroit, Mich., he made his home in Virginia after serving 14+ years in the U.S. Army. He served in Korea and Vietnam.

Survivors include his wife, Margie E. Daoust of Gloucester; three daughters, Estelle Smith of Mathews, Susie Hudgins and Tammy Daoust, both of Gloucester; two sons, Calvin Daoust of Gloucester, James Hudgins Jr. of Cobbs Creek and Harold J. Daoust of Alabama; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
