The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, October 26, 1944; pg. 1 ===================== IN MEMORY Word was received Friday, October 2, by Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Rausher that their son Tech. Sgt. Lloyd L. Rausher, who was serving with the 109th Infantry was killed in action September 13th in Germany. T-Sgt. Lloyd was born near Nelson, December 21, 1918, and had attained the age of 25 years, 8 months and 23 days. He graduated from the Nelson High School in 1936, during which time he received the Union Pacific Scholarship in Vocational Agriculture. Upon graduation from high school he worked at home helping his folks with the farming, until October 21st, 1941, when he was called into the Service. He entered training at Camp Wolters, Texas. In January, 1942, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal. Then in February he was sent to Camp Robinson, Arkansas, where in August he was made Sergeant. In February, 1943, he attained the rank of Tech. Sgt. He remained at Camp Robinson until June, 1943, when he was sent to North Camp Hood, Texas. In December of this same year he was sent to Camp Blanding, Florida. In June, 1944, he went to Camp Meade, Maryland, where he embarked for overseas. He arrived in France in August. Sgt. Rausher was well liked by all the men he trained. When he was being transferred from Camp Blanding to Camp Meade the Company which he had trained while there and which he was leaving, gave him a gift of $85.00 to show their love and respect for him. On January 14, 1943, he was united in marriage to Ethel Carrol of Little Rock, Arkansas. His wife was with him from the time of their marriage until he was moved to Camp Blanding, Florida. Sgt. Rausher is survived by his be- Verne and Ferne (NOTE: typed as written in newspaper), one step-daughter Alice Faye all of Clarendon, Arkansas; also his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rausher, one brother, three sisters, Delcie Stowers, Dorothy Reeve and Elsie Rausher, one uncle, Cam Rausher all of Nelson; one aunt of Superior, and many other relatives and friends.
