Wednesday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with the family present from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.Sidney Allan Diffendaffer, the son of James A. and Mary A. (Ward) Diffendaffer was born June 15, 1926 at Bayard, Nebraska. He grew up in the Minatare, Nebraska area where he attended the nine mile rural school before graduating from Minatare High School in 1944. After high school, Sid worked on the family farm until 1950 when he was drafted into the Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning from military service in 1952 he decided to attend college on the GI Bill. Sid attended college at Scottsbluff Community College where he met his future wife Mille Sprenger. They were married August 23, 1957 at the First Christian Church in Sidney.Sid continued his education at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and then transferred to Chadron State College where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Education in 1958. Sid and Millie began their teaching careers in Edgemont, SD and then moved on to teach in Lodgepole, Nebraska. He continued his education in the summers and graduated with a Masters Degree in 1969. Sid also taught science in Dix and at Sidney St. Patrick's Academy before leaving teaching to work at the University of Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station where he worked until he retired in 1991. After retirement he continued farming, as he had done all through his teaching career, until the day he died.Survivors include his sons: Tim of Colorado Springs, CO and James of Denver, CO; one sister Eva Betson of Chadron, NE; 2 Grandchildren and 6 Great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mildred in 2010; two sisters: Arla "Jean" Helser and Bernice Harris and two brothers: Eldon and Don. Holechek Funeral Home and Cremations in Sidney is serving the Diffendaffer family.
