Silas Freeman Meldrum 1950 Bridgewater Bulletin The death of Silas Meldrum,an aged resident of Upper Branch, took place at his home on October 25, at the age of 85 years, 4 months, and 22 days. He was the son of the late Solomon and Eliza Meldrum, and with the exception of a few years spent in the United States, he lived his entire life in the community in which he was born and where he always worked for its welfare. On October 17, he was seized with a paralytic stroke, from which he never rallied, and death came as a blessed relief to end his sufferings, although he will be sadly missed in his home and community, and especially by his pal of declining years. He leaves to mourn his passing, his widow, the former Bessie Conrad, who with him celebrated their 56th. wedding anniversary on September 5th of this year. Also surviving are two daughters, Ella, Mrs. Earnel Corkum, of Conquerall Bank; Cora,widow of Ananias Beck of Upper Branch; one so, Warren,at home; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. An aged brother, Joshua, now in ill health, also survives him. Two brothers and three sisters predeceased him years ago. The funeral services at the church on Saturday afternoon were conducted by his pastor, Rev. D. L. Kennedy, and the church was filled to overflowing with relatives and friends from far and near, who came to pay their last respects to one who was well known for miles around. Mr. Kennedy read several passages of scripture, after which he delivered a short sermon on the subject,"Home." His comforting message to the bereaved ones was feelingly and sympathetically expounded. The hymns, "Rock of Ages," " Just As I Am," and " Does Jesus Care," favourite hymns of the deceased, were sung, after which the body was carried to its last resting place by his four grandsons, Arnold, Cecil, Elmer, and Milton Beck.
